Anastasia was a great artist and writer, but no one else knew that. She was shy, quiet, and a girl who kept to herself. At one point, Anastasia decided to try out for her school's newspaper. She decided to do the comic section. When other students saw her name on the signup list, they discouraged her and continued to put her down. They called her a loser and other terrible remarks. She ignored them and was determined to be better than who she is. Many other kids tried out for this section of the newspaper, and Anastasia ended up winning. Although she never added her name to her work, she would rather be unknown by her classmates since nobody believed in her.
There was another tryout for the newspaper, but this time it was for the local newspaper. Because nobody knew that she won the school strip, classmates would make fun of her for trying. They would tell her she is going to lose and that she's wasting her time. Anastasia told her mother, and her mother stated, " Be better than what they expect from you, be determined, and don't give up. And although they don't believe in you, I do." That encouraged Anastasia to be more determined than ever. She submitted her work to the local newspaper and waited for their response. Anastasia won, and she put her name with her work. In the newspaper, they acknowledged her work in the school's newspaper, and they started to feel awful for the way they treated her. Anastasia ended up with the last laugh as she stayed determined through the process.
