Frequently Asked Questions
The Shell Train to Hire Scholarship Program aims to provide 100 experienced engineers with the FREE opportunity to expand their skills in one of two Nanodegree programs: Advanced Data Engineer or Advanced Software Engineer. The selected scholars will prepare for a potential career at one of the world’s leading energy companies, as graduates will be eligible to interview for advanced roles at Shell.
Between instructional content, quizzes, projects, and other course-related activity, we estimate that investing 10-15 hours/week of self-study (including attending weekly 1.5-2 hour virtual connect sessions) will enable Nanodegree program learners to proceed through the curriculum at a successful pace.
We have a dedicated Slack Student Community where you can ask questions, get answers, and find support from your peers, Community Team, Session Leads & Career Coaches. Specifically for technical questions regarding your Nanodegree Program:
You will have the support of Session Leads in Slack who will be actively present in the Slack Workspace, helping you with your technical questions in Nanodegree Specific Channels as well as conducting Weekly Connect Sessions.
Make sure to follow the program schedule presented in your Weekly Schedule and you will be well on your way to graduating from your Nanodegree Program on time. However, if you do not make sufficient progress within the first 3 weeks of your program (in this program until July 21st which is the revoking date), you risk being "Revoked", or removed, from the program.
The criteria you must meet in order to avoid being revoked is: submitting one project (by the revoking date) or completing all concepts designated until the revoking date in the Weekly Schedule.
Yes, there are two specific deadlines scholars should be aware of.
First is the Revoking Date, where we will have to revoke access to the scholarship program if scholars haven't at least submitted their first project or completed the concepts mentioned till the revoking date in Weekly Schedule. We ask that all students submit their first project before July 21st, 2022 to avoid having their access revoked.
The second specific deadline is the end of the program, on October 24, 2022. This will be the final day students can earn their graduation certificate, so we strongly advise submitting final projects at least three days before that date. Remember, it takes 2 - 3 days for a project submission to be reviewed!
The Weekly Schedule we've presented for each track is our recommended pace for study. If you keep pace with it, you should be able to complete all coursework before the end of the program.
