It is our expectation that you will clock in at your scheduled start time and be at your station and ready for work immediately after you clock in. Tardiness and absenteeism place severe hardship on the dining operation, on your colleagues, and on our customers.
To meet our customer service objectives, please adhere to your unit specific procedures for covering shifts, calling out, etc.
Please also adhere to the following:
A No Call/No Show (failure to call in and notify your manager or designee that you are unable to report to work as scheduled) is NOT acceptable and is a serious violation.
The employee notify the unit within 2 hours of their scheduled start time, on the date of the absence, or it will be considered a no call/no show.
This will result in being placed on Final Warning Status.
Tardiness is defined as clocking in after your posted start time or clocking in late from a break period
If you will be tardy, it is your responsibility to notify the manager on duty as soon as possible. (Lack of transportation is an unacceptable reason to miss work.)
You are expected to notify your supervisor if you must leave your work station during your scheduled shift for any reason.
An unreasonable call out is defined as a call out that does not follow the unit’s call out procedures (i.e. calling out with less than two hour notice, missing shift to study/ complete class assignments, etc.)
Attendance and Performance logs are rolled over and continue for the duration of each academic school year. Although students are starting from scratch, past attendance and performance history can and will be factored into future disciplinary action and/or promotions.
If a student employee is absent from work for three (3) or more consecutive shifts without prior notification, Dining Management will assume the student is no longer interested in continuing their employment and a separation from employment will be initiated.
Missed, late, and sick shifts are assigned a point value based on either the degree, lateness or the reason for the missed shift. Further action will be based on the accrual of these points.
There is a grace period at the beginning of Fall quarter to allow students time to finalize their class schedule. During this time, attendance related incidents will still be recorded but will not be assigned any points.*
Fall Quarter Only: 1st week of instruction
*While points are not given, abuse of the grace period can still lead to removal from the schedule and separation from employment.
There may be instances when Dining Management determines that a student employee is not eligible to be hired at any Dining & Hospitality Services location for ONE CALENDAR YEAR.
Scenarios that will lead to a "No Rehire" status include:
Theft of any kind (product, time, etc)
Repetitive breaking of campus/dining policies (ie no smoking)
Excessive points/ habitual absenteeism for multiple quarters (two or more) without improvement
