How to get to the pool by bys

Take Route 42 to Bonny Doon Rd & Pine Flat Rd or request a courtesy stop at Bonny Doon Rd & Smith Grade.

Items to Bring to the Pool - Checklist

Sealing the ROV - Procedure

  1. Ensure all wires are tucked inside the enclosure

  2. Remove the vent plug

  3. Place the lid on the enclosure and insert all the screws

  4. Tighten in a crosswise pattern

  5. Re-insert the vent plug (MAKE SURE THE VENT PLUG IS INSTALLED BEFORE SUBMERGING)

Submerging BIG SLAB - Procedure

  1. Ensure that the lunchbox is properly sealed, with both latches closed and no wires protruding through the seal.

  2. Ensure that the lunchbox is properly attached to the ROV such that it will not float up from the ROV when submerged. This can be done with two bands of zip ties that wrap around the top of the enclosure and connect to the frame (Figure 1) or bungee cords (Figure 2).

  3. Submerge the ROV at a shallow depth (10cm) for 15 seconds. The ROV should not be powered.

  4. Remove the ROV from the pool and check the enclosure for water ingress.

  5. If there is no water in the enclosure, power on the ROV.

  6. Make sure all 6 ESCs arm.

  7. Make sure the ROV is capable of being fully controlled from the surface by completing this procedure and inputting all degrees of motion using the controller.

  8. Put the ROV in the pool. It is now ready for normal operation.

Pneumatic Operation - Pre-Use Procedure

  1. Start with an unpressurized compressor tank. Connect the ROV to compressor.

  2. Assure pressure vent plug is closed and pressure release valve safety trigger is not open.

  3. Turn on compressor

  4. Adjust pressure regulator until 40psi working pressure is reached

  5. turn off the compressor when storage pressure reaches 120psi. This will happen automatically, but it is good practice to do it yourself as well

  6. Once system is pressurized, DO NOT maintenance or disconnect any components in the system. Keep all hands and tools away from active components and pistons. Depressurize before maintenance or transporting ROV

Pneumatic Operation - Post-Use Procedure

  1. Assure all pistons or ROV tools are clear of obstruction.

  2. Slowly open the pressure vent plug on the compressor until a small amount of air begins to flow from the compressor. DO NOT open more than 1/4 of the way unless everybody within 50 feet has ear protection

  3. wait until both the working and storage pressure read 0psi.

  4. Close vent plug and disconnect ROV from compressor

ROV - Post-Use Procedure

At the pool:

  1. Remove the ROV from the pool and power it off.

  2. Disconnect the tether from the control station.

  3. Use the hose at the pool (located in the corner diagonally opposite from the hot tub) to rinse off the ROV, paying particular attention to areas with wiring or penetrators.

  4. Hold the ROV above the ground and lightly shake it to remove most of the water.

  5. Use a towel or paper towels to mostly dry any remaining wet spots.

  6. Pack the ROV away in its carrying case. If it's still wet, put it inside of a trash bag where it belongs.

At the lab:

  1. Remove the ROV from it's carrying case.

  2. Use the de-ionized water to rinse off the ROV, paying particular attention to areas with wiring or penetrators.

    1. Recall: The S-Lab has plastic tubing that can be used to route water out of the faucet. It's highly recommended that you use one of these to route the DI water onto the ROV - trying to rinse using just the faucet is painful

  3. Dry any wet spots with a towel or paper towels.

  4. Leave the ROV in the sink area to dry.
