As a student organization, Slugbotics has access to CruzBuy, UCSC's procurement system from industrial suppliers like McMaster Carr. We get discounts and access to some suppliers that consumers can't order from. When working on the ROV, you should order the majority of your parts from a supplier on CruzBuy (although we can buy from Amazon et al if necessary). Here is a list of suppliers that we usually order from.
McMaster Carr (all manner of bolts, fasteners, materials, etc.)
Digi-Key (electronic components)
Mouser (electronic components)
Grainger (tools)
Pololu (esoteric electronic parts and microcontroller stuff)
Adafruit (microcontroller parts, minimum order $50)
Automation Direct (we mostly buy pneumatic parts from them)
If you want to buy a part from a supplier and need to know if CruzBuy supports them, ask someone with CruzBuy access (Theo Kell and Ryan Meckel as of 2020-01-25)
When you have compiled a list of parts that you want ordered, follow these directions to put them in the CruzBuy orders spreadsheet, which can also be found in the business folder of the Shared Drive.
Steps:
Scroll to the bottom, past all the previous orders. There will be an order named "CruzBuy xx: future"
Enter your parts in the spreadsheet. Fill out only the boxes for "Description", "Part Number/Link", "Purpose", "Price per Part", "Quantity", "Supplier", and "Status"
When you have input all your parts, send a message in the #purchasing channel in the Slack. Make sure to mention how urgent the parts are. A purchaser will make the decision to order immediately or wait to combine with other orders.
