AC Wiring Procedure

Revised 2020-01-13 by Rohan Tuli to include ANSI wiring standard.

Follow this procedure when using an AC powered device which requires a custom power cable with exposed contacts, such as the 48V Power Supply or Control Box Lower Board.

Note: Always have someone double check your wiring. It’s better for it to take longer than for you to become part of the circuit.

  1. Obtain a power distribution unit (PDU) with an easily accessible shut off switch. This can be the power strip with the locking power switch.

  2. Plug the PDU into a wall outlet and ensure that it is in the OFF position.

  3. Connected the exposed ends of the power cable to the AC device being used. The ISO wiring standard is:

    • BROWN - Live

    • BLUE - Neutral

    • GREEN - Earth

The ANSI wiring standard is:

    • BLACK - Live

    • WHITE - Neutral

    • GREEN - Earth

Warning: Do not attempt to connect to bullet crimps to a screw terminal designed for spade/ring crimps. Do not attempt to insert spade/ring crimps into a terminal block designed for bare wire or bullet crimps.

  1. Install a safety cover over the connection between the AC device and power cable to prevent accidental contact. Some devices have a flip-down plastic cover. Other devices may require electrical tape.

  2. Ensuring that the PDU is still in the OFF position, plug the non-device end of the power cable into the PDU.

  3. Turn the PDU ON. Ensure that the OFF button on the PDU is within reach while using the AC device.
