Welcome to the Anywear Academy

What is the Anywear Academy?

Anywear Academy presents a STEM education framework using edu-larp as a possible approach to framing technology learning experiences.

Originally designed with middle school girls in mind, Anywear Academy teaches campers how to program and design social wearable technology that they will use to solve missions as a community.

Intro to Edu-larping

Edu-larp stands for Educational Live-Action Roleplay!

Edularp is like improv theatre with a ruleset meant to provide an educational immersive experience.

Our Approach

Aligned with Computer Science Teacher's Association (CSTA) Standards

Grounded in CSTA standards from K-8 that emphasize ’core’ computing concepts and a blend of iteration and communication skills.

The narrative, design, and technical components of Anywear Academy were designed through 1 year of iteration, testing, and consulting our Youth Advisory Committee.

Hands-on, Project Based, Block Programming

Unveil the Wonders of STEM with MakeCode & Micro:bit

Using British Broadcasting Company's (BBC) Micro:bit controllers and Microsoft's Makecode, Trainees will code interactive features (ie: LED lights, sound speakers, servo motors, etc.)  into their wearable costumes to solve missions.

What's MakeCode?

MakeCode is a free online block-programming platform where anyone can build games, code devices, and learn to code!

Create as a joint project between Microsoft Research and Visual Studio to bring computer science to life for all students with fun projects, immediate results, and both block and text editors for learners at different levels.

What's Micro:bit?

Micro:bit is a mini computer designed to inspire digital pioneers, including those who might have thought tech was not for them!

Created as part of the BBC’s Make It Digital initiative, it estimated that 39 million young people from more than 60 countries have benefitted from learning with the Micro:bit so far.

Narrative Backdrop

The Anywear Academy is a secret organization founded by a dedicated group of scientists who have tasked themselves to explore new civilizations and cultures for the betterment of all life across these planes of existence.

Agents of the Academy posses novel Portal technology (LED-lined doors) that allows them to travel to different worlds!

As Facilitators, You are full-fledged Agents of the Academy, Mentor Characters ushering the Trainees through their adventure by teaching coding classes, playing Non-Player Characters (NPCs), and co-creating your story together.

Kids will play the part of Anywear Academy Agents-in-Training trying to solve missions in different worlds. They make costumes depending on which world they are traveling to!

The outcome of your story will be determined by the actions and decisions of you and your Trainees!
