Sustainability Evening!!

Thank you to everyone for attending the Evening or having a read of all the rooms on our website.

This was the first Sustainability Open Evening held at UCS, aimed at providing children from across Camden the opportunity to meet and support companies and charities who are driving sustainable change. The buzz around the evening before and during it, is testament to the enthusiasm that is driving sustainable change within the UCS Foundation and across the Borough. I hope that many of the attendees left the event with the determination to make sustainable switches in their lifestyles. The 6 zones, themed around Camden Council's Schools Climate Charter which UCS signed last year, held a huge variety of interactive stalls. These included Google's VR headsets showing pristine rainforests to competitions and charities such as Power Up North London, all aimed at encouraging pupils to get more involved or change different aspects of their lifestyle to become more sustainable.

As Ava and Anna, two Sixth Formers from the UCS environmental society "Green Impact", summarised in their opening speech, the ripple effect of lots of small changes will help drive long-lasting substantial decarbonisation of our society.

This event is the first of what we hope to be a series of community engagement events focussed around sustainability. Having taken the step this year to become the first school in the UK to become net carbon zero, UCS are aiming to lead in reducing the carbon footprint in the education sector alongside educating the next generation in sustainable solutions.

Thanks must go to Valeria Pensabene from Camden Clean Air who worked tirelessly to bring together such a range of companies and charities with fascinating interactive stalls. If any schools or other organisations were looking to how they could drive community engagement in sustainability, I could not recommend running an event like this enough!
