Soccer for Success program in California
The Soccer for Success curriculum is SNAP-Ed approved to use with CalFresh Healthy Living, UC.
The National 4-H Program partnered with the U.S. Soccer Foundation in 2019 to offer Soccer for Success. The model provides flexibility and tools to train and develop new volunteers and offer a new project, which can be offered as a short-term 4-H program.
Since 2019, Sonoma County 4-H has hosted Soccer for Success for five years. Soccer programs ranged from six to ten weeks. Nearly 600 youth participated in the soccer programs over the last five years, even participated remotely and socially distanced during the pandemic. Some of our California 4-H staff completed training on the curriculum provided by U.S. Soccer.
Please contact Diego Mariscal at damariscal@ucanr.edu for resources to secure field space, recruit, and train volunteers to deliver the Soccer for Success program in your county.
Project Sheets are a guide for Project Leaders to develop lessons with meaningful content. Families and youth may reference these as a guide for what can be covered in the project. Please click the links to see the Project Sheet — please note that we do not have Project Sheets for all projects yet.
