These registration guides are LIVING DOCUMENTS that provide you with information on the necessary enrollments and enrollment patterns to build a timetable for your program. The information in these documents may change, and depending on the nature of that change -- students may or may not be emailed to notify them of the update. Please refer to the website for the most accurate information. For help navigating Beartracks please refer to the Registrar's Office BearTracks Help site.
NOTE TO STUDENTS: The registration guides are specific to the academic year issued and are not intended for continuous use throughout your entire program. Cours codes, section numbers, etc., often change from year to year -- so the document you save in Year 1 most likely is not valid for your Year 2 or Year 3 registration. To ensure that you have the most accurate and up-to-date information for your enrollment, you MUST refer to the website.
The Registration Guides were created as one guide for each program, broken down into a specific registration pattern for each year within that program. Your first task would be to identify the guide for your specific program, scroll to the year you are entering, and follow the information listed.
Each term can have a number of course sequence options or "patterns" that are available. You must choose one full sequence or 'bubble' for each term. You may be able to switch between sequences in different terms, but you cannot mix and match within the same term. The sequences are documented in that specific pattern for a specific reason, and to ensure you do not experience any unnecessary registration issues be sure to enroll in the entire 'bubble'.
Lets take a closer look at the registration guides for some examples!
If we take a closer look at the registration guide for Year 1 Collaborative courses, you can see that there are two sequence options (Sequence 1 and Sequence 2).
As stated by the note at the top of the page, students must select one sequence or "bubble" for each term. Taking a look at the lines between the Fall and Winter terms -- it shows that if I were to choose Sequence 1 for Fall, I could choose either Sequence 1 OR Sequence 2 for the Winter. Similarly, if I chose Sequence 2 for the Fall, I could choose Sequence 1 or Sequence 2 for with Winter.
Please enroll in the bubble in its entirety, ensuring that your section numbers match the document.
Looking at the Year 2 Collaborative courses, our pattern map looks significantly different.
While there are three total sequences that students could choose from, movement between those sequences is non-existent. This means that students who select Sequence 1 will remain in Sequence 1 for both the Fall AND Winter terms (this is the case for all three patterns).
The reason for this is the addition of clinical courses in Year 2. With students completing clinical rotations during the week, they cannot have courses scheduled at the same time. Patterns have been set with these requirements considered, and moving between sequences is not possible. Please enroll in the bubble in its entirety, ensuring all section numbers match.
How do I meet my ENGL requirement?
You can meet this by completing 3 units in ENGL or 3 units in WRS from the following. Remember not all sections are offered every term, so check availability closely in BearTracks/My Schedule Builder when searching:
ENGL 102, 103, 125
WRS 100, 101, 102, 104
AUENG 102
Note: ENGL 150 and ENGL 199 do not satisfy the 3 units English/Writing Studies requirement.
I can't get into an ENGL/WRS course, what should I do?
ENGL and WRS courses tend to fill up fast, but don't worry if you are unable to get into a section immediately. You can always waitlist your section of choice and when seats become available you will be notified. In the meantime, sign up for an elective course. If you are still unable to register in an ENGL/WRS course, you can complete your elective course in the Fall semester and register for an ENGL/WRS course in Spring semester.
Please note that it is not common for the Faculty of Arts to offer online ENGL/WRS courses, so if you are not planning on being physically on-campus in the Spring term, it may be difficult for you to complete the requirement this way. Send us a ticket through the Student Service Portal and we can explore other options with you!
Why have seats been taken in courses if enrollment is not yet open?
During registration season, there are a large number of students attempting to enroll in courses at the same time. To combat this, registration opens to students in different years of their post-secondary experience at different times. Pay attention to your specific registration dates in BearTracks. You may notice that seats in courses have already been taken prior to your enrollment date because of this.
I am trying to register in a course, but it is full. What should I do?
Course availability continues to change as students change their schedules. In some cases, departments may open additional sections to meet demand. You will want to add yourself to the Watch List (if available for the course) on My Schedule Builder (MSB) for any courses that you are interested in enrolling in. By adding yourself to the Watch List, MSB will text you once a space becomes available.
Unfortunately we cannot guarantee that all students will get every course they want at the time they were hoping for as demand is very high. We do, however, ensure that all nursing students will be enrolled in all of their required NURS courses -- it just might not be at the time you were hoping for.
I can't add an elective course to My Schedule Builder. Why?
Check to make sure that the course does not have any restrictions. This can be found under the Class Remarks after you have selected a particular course.
Some courses offered in other faculties (ex. Faculty of Science) may only be available to students within that specific faculty. Students outside of the faculties may be able to register in a course after a certain date. Check the Class Remarks for more information.
I can't get into a class, and I keep getting an error message in My Schedule Builder. What should I do?
First, read the message. This will inform you of the reason you are unable to enroll in the class. If that doesn’t help then:
Check the listed pre/co requisites
Check to see if it’s restricted to a specific Major/Minor
Check with the Department offering the course for any Priority Restrictions (ie: the date when enrollment is opened up to all students instead of specific groups/cohorts of students, ex. 4th years or XXX Majors)
It’s common for course registration to open before the Undergraduate Nursing Office. If you run into issues registering in NURS courses, please know we likely haven’t had a chance to review and resolve them yet. Don’t panic! With many students accessing the system at the same time, BearTracks can become overwhelmed. Try waiting a little while and then attempt to register again. If problems persist, reach out to us with details and include screenshots if possible—they’re super helpful.
Who should I contact if I'm having issues with registration?
For the most part, any issues regarding any issues that you have with registration should be directed to the Nursing Undergraduate Student Service Office ONLY. Sending multiple emails to different groups will not result in getting an answer faster, just as sending repeated emails to the Student Service Office will not warrant a quicker response.
Please keep in mind that with any issues regarding course registration, it is very unlikely that you are the only student experiencing the issue.
If you have made repeated attempts to resolve your registration issues and still not finding any resolutions, please reach out to us using the Student Service Portal and provide as much information as you can -- including the course code, section number, as well as any screenshots if relevant. This information will help us resolve your issue faster, as it saves us having to ask for it down the line!
If you choose to call the office or visit us in person, that does not necessarily mean we will be able to resolve your issue at that time. You may still be asked to submit a ticket to allow us to track the issue, as we wait for a resolution. If you've sent us a ticket, please allow us time to look into it. Registration is an exceptionally busy time for our office and there are a variety of different issues with different causes and solutions that could be happening. We are working to resolve the issues in a timely manner, but we are NOT ignoring you. We just need time to solve the problem. If it's been 5-7 business days and you haven't heard from us, you can follow up.
