Students move up through levels by completing a certain number of stamp cards at each level. Each level has its own color card, binder cover, and binder spine. As students advance through the levels, it takes fewer stamps to fill a card.
Level 1 (white): Cards #1-15
Level 2 (red): Cards #16-50
Level 3 (black): Cards #51-100
Level 4 (gold): Cards #101-200
Level 5 (platinum): Cards #201+
Special Reward Cards (e.g. for a Mastered Mastery Check) do not count toward the number of completed cards for advancing levels.
Students always earn stamps and cards for the following:
1 stamp - Each completed page
1 stamp - Last Stamp of the Day Conversation
1 stamp - Parent signature on last session’s Last Stamp of the Day form
10 stamps - Completed Warm Up section
1 stamp - Each correct Challenge Question
1 card - Each Mastered Mastery Check
10 cards - Filled Mathnasium Masters page
1 stamp - Each correct answer on an Assessment
5 cards - Each completed Assessment
10 cards - every 50 visits
50 cards - Each referred friend that enrolls
5 cards - Come to Mathnasium ON your birthday
1 card - For your birthday
1 card - 90+ on a math test from school
1 stamp - Wear Mathnasium branded materials to the center
3 cards - Bring a friend to a Mathnasium event
At your discretion, you might also offer extra stamps to motivate students. Examples of appropriate offers include:
Completing a worksheet within a set time limit.
Completing a worksheet and getting all the questions right on the first try.
Correctly answering an Extending Knowledge question.
Accomplishing Today’s Goal, if it goes beyond the basic expectation of 4 pages from the PK section.
Beware of offering extra stamps for simply doing what is expected! For example, don't offer double stamps just for finishing a worksheet. You will dilute the value of the rewards and cause stamp inflation. It is your right as an instructor to offer extra stamps. If a student asks for extra stamps, the answer is almost certainly no!
Reward Cards can only be redeemed for items in the rewards cabinet at the end of a student's session, after they have completed all their work, including having a Last Stamp of the Day Conversation. No one may "reserve" items in the rewards cabinet. If an item is not already in the rewards cabinet, it is not currently available - no shopping out of the back, and absolutely no students in the storage area. Only the instructor should open the rewards cabinet, never the student. Place spent Reward Cards in the box on top of the rewards cabinet.
A few things to watch out for:
Make sure all Reward Cards being redeemed are actually fully stamped.
Make sure special Reward Cards have an instructor's initials on them.
Make sure the student still has a current, numbered stamp card in their binder for next time.
All items inside of the large rewards cabinet should have a tag with the number of cards the item costs, and this tag should be removed and kept when the reward is taken by a student.
