Visual Aids
As part of the preparation for the Singing Competition, I created a simple PowerPoint slide for the song "Old MacDonald Had a Farm". Why is this visual aid necessary in teaching the song? This is the song has numerous animal sounds that students need to do in order. Which I believe is hard to do based on their level. So, as a versatile teacher, I thought of an idea of creating a visual presentation of the order of the animals in the song. I will point out the animal, and they will think the sound that the animal makes in advance.
What's in the box?
This is an old yet effective way to teach target words and sentences to students. I created my own box to avoid cheating. There are two holes where students insert their hands to touch the object inside the box. Once they know the object, they will need to write the sentence "It's a/an (object)." on the board. I put the object inside the box, and my co-teacher checks the words or sentences to see whether right or wrong. We always practice effective co-teaching in our lessons.
Slap!
This vocabulary activity has been one of my most effective teaching strategies for more than a year now. Teaching vocabulary is one of the hardest and most boring parts of learning English. Through this strategy, I make it interesting and more meaningful to the students. Moreover, I added more words to their vocabulary because in this game, I have the instructions "clap" and "tap". I would say "clap" "tap" then the word to be slapped. Also, you can see that my co-teacher also played with the students to make it even more interesting. This is also a way to bond with the students.
