COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will introduce you to the basics of stage acting including: acting exercises, memorization, vocal training, acting terminology, performing monologues, writing scenes and monologues and scene work.
COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the completion of this course you should:
* Know and be able to use terminology related to acting and actors
* Be able to create a biography/analysis for a character in a play as well as write an original script.
* Be familiar with a number of acting exercises and understand how they contribute to actor training
* Know how to use your voice expressively in an oral reading
* Be able to prepare a monologue for performance or audition
* Be able to work with another actor to prepare a scene for performance or audition
GRADING: Your grade for this course will be based on the following:
Two Evening Performances
Daily Participation/Monologues/Scene work/Written work/Group projects/Critiques/Overall growth
Note: In addition to graded assignments, throughout the course we will engage in discussions, readings, improvisations, theatre games, and other activities.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
1. You are expected to be here on any day that you have a presentation or rehearsal. If you are working with a partner, you have an obligation to contact him/her and me if you are going to be absent.
2. When working with a partner, exchange phone numbers and e-mail addresses before you begin work.
3. In this class you will be working with student directors. These students are here to help you choose material and prepare your presentations. They will give you helpful feedback and notes on how to improve.
IN CLASS EXPECTATIONS:
You are expected to show considerate, attentive and supportive behavior in class at all times to all persons. When other students are performing, they need your support as you will need their support when you are onstage. Do not enter or leave the class or theater during performances. Students with improper audience etiquette will lose points. Racial/sexual slurs are not permitted in this class at any time.
You will have to memorize lines and perform in front of the class.
Material selected for class performance will be suitable for general audiences. Editing language or content of the material is THE STUDENT’S responsibility. If you have questions, ask your instructor
NO phones allowed
NO devices in your ears unless they are to aid in hearing or noise cancelling headphones
NO food or drink allowed in the blackbox
You are expected to participate in Creeps and Shakefest 2025
Creeps will be Oct. 30th and there are two rehearsals that week. Please plan now for these events as they count for a letter grade. Shakefest 2025 is Jan. 15th and there will be no after school rehearsals for this production. You only need to be here the evening of the 15th.
