6:30 PM ASM ROUNDTABLE

7:30 PM TROOP MEETING - SIGN-OFF BONANZA

From the SPL

Hey Troop 77, I hope you had a great last week of school and are ready for the last meeting before summer!!! This meeting will mainly focus on advancement so remember to bring your scout book, merit badge workbooks, blue cards, and whatever else you need to get things signed off at this week's meeting. There will also be merit badge counselors; if you wish to meet with them during this meeting, you should reach out to them in advance.

Have a great week,

Cadhan Cole

from the scoutmaster

Hard to believe this Tuesday is the last meeting of the school year! While the school year has ended for most and will end this week for others, Scouts will continue throughout the summer with 2 meetings in June, one in July, a huge Philmont contingent departing June 30th, and Summer Camp July 17-24.

This week, ASMs will be available the entire meeting to meet with scouts and sign off on requirements. However, be sure you come prepared! You need to read the scoutbook pages pertaining to the requirement, be able to explain the concepts in your own words, and bring any supplies if demonstrating. If you completed a requirement on a trip, make sure you have proof of completion from an ASM to get the signoff. Scouts are also welcome to meet with merit badge counselors during the meeting but you must reach out to them to arrange this.

Axoxotl and Raven patrols: you will meet separately with Mr. DeLange for 30 minutes to finalize your patrol flags, so be sure to come Tuesday if you are part of these 2 patrols.

We are still working to finalize details of our summer plans, but you can at least see the dates and times for the summer meetings on the calendar below and on the Troop calendars. The senior patrol might add another weekend event in June, but that all depends on if the SPL and ASPLs consider this a high priority and if they can get it planned!

If you are looking to earn some service hours or simply looking to Do a Good Turn and volunteer this summer, then please consider setting up, breaking down, and/or working at Cub Scout Day Camps (special section below).

Finally, if you have not signed up to go to Summer Camp, especially First Year Scouts, then you can still do so. Please see or contact Ms. Crawford and she can help you with the sign-up process.

Be Great Scouts and I’ll see you PROMPTLY* at 7:30P on Tuesday outside Scout Hall (*Early is on time, on time is late, late is unacceptable.)

VOLUNTEER AT CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP

Cub Scout Day Camp is June 6-10 at Chamblee United Methodist Church, with setup on Saturday June 4 and camp breakdown Friday the 10th after camp dismisses. Camp leadership needs LOTS of scout volunteers to serve as den chiefs, program staff, on the shooting ranges, and in many other roles. You can volunteer ½ a day, a full day, 2 or 3 days, or the entire week and all hours served are scoutmaster approved for service. For more info, see Mrs. Henderson or Mr. Cole. To volunteer, sign up here: https://www.atlantabsa.org/ht-daycamp

EAGLE COURTS OF HONOR HELP

For anyone (Scouts or Parents) who can volunteer some time to help organize a few things, get things setup, or help take things down at the end of Eagle Courts of Honor, I know Mrs. Cole could certainly use the help.  It’s not an overwhelming amount of stuff to get done by a team, but it starts to get overwhelming if you are having to do it all by yourself. If you’re interested in helping with the Eagle Courts of Honor please contact Holly Cole (hpcole77@gmail.com or (770) 401-4992) and let her know.  With a big backlog from COVID and being fortunate to have 1-2 Scouts earning Eagle a month, this is a great way to give some time to the Troop on a night other than Tuesdays and a great place to start volunteering.

Aquatics Merit Badge Days

Classes are held each Saturday starting June 2 through August 13, 2022, a total of 9 weekends. There will not be classes on Saturday, July 2nd or July 30th.  Click here for more info: https://www.atlantabsa.org/caabmb

RANGER CAMP –  JUNE 26 - JULY 1, 2022

For over 30 years, the US Army Rangers has partnered with the BSA to create a unique High Adventure opportunity for up to 100 participants including youth and adult.  Highlights include:

The camp is held at the Camp Frank D. Merrill US Army Ranger base in Dahlonega, GA.  Participants sleep in the barracks and eat in the mess hall or MREs (Meals Ready to Eat) in the field.  In the middle of the week, participants transition to Yonah Mountain and camp for two nights where skills are put into practice on a larger scale.

For more information, click here: https://www.nega-bsa.org/Ranger.

Mr. Henderson went to this camp as a youth for 5 years in a row and considers it his favorite camp.  It is a lot of fun and very rewarding.  It inspired him to spend weekends in college climbing, rappelling and camping on Mt. Yonah.  He looks forward to going back to Ranger Camp this year and is happy to answer any questions you have.

new eagle required merit badge - citizenship in society

The first new merit badge for youth in the Scouts BSA program since 2017 will become Eagle required over the summer.  Called Citizenship in Society, it provides Scouts with opportunities to learn more about our world by encouraging them to explore information on diversity, equity, inclusion and ethical leadership — and to learn why these qualities are important in society and in Scouting.

Troop 77 needs qualified (adult) merit badge instructors to lead Citizenship in Society.  Registration is now open for the next two Citizenship in Society Facilitator training sessions. They will be held on March 12th and April 23rd at the Volunteer Service Center (across from the Braves stadium).  Follow the link to register: https://www.atlantabsa.org/cis-training

Please e-mail Wes Brewer (wesbrewer@hotmail.com) with any questions.
