7:00P TROOP MEETING

From the SPL

Hey Troop 77 I hope you are excited to get back to scouting this week. The Meeting will be held on June 20th at the regular OGUMC circle drive from 7:00-8:00 and a PLC at 6:30. The Meeting will mostly be about teaching younger or less experienced scouts about Summer Camp. Please note that you are permitted to wear Class B which for those who don't know means a SCOUT RELATED SHIRT. If you have anything that needs to be sewn on to a uniform or sashe make sure to bring it because Mrs Todd will be helping with that as well.

Thanks, Have A Great Week.

from the scoutmaster

We have our second summer meeting of 2022 on Monday 6/20 from 7P to 8P in the regular location (circular lot).

Thanks to everyone that made it to last week’s flag retirement ceremony. It was a great observance in advance of Flag Day, and we successfully retired all flags that were in the donation box.

A huge thanks to everyone, Scouts and Adults, that volunteered last week at Hightower Trail District Cub Scout Day Camp. Volunteers included Wynn Keith, Camryn Massey, Will Henderson, Jackson Wade, Charlie Hunter, Sanjith Ramalingham, Mr. Cole, Mr. Wade, myself, Keegan Cole, Oliver Bluett, Beckett Martin, Beckett’s mom (Mrs. Martin), and Ryan Shimabukuro (if I forget anyone, I apologize). Ryan S got a special shoutout from camp directors for his display of servant leadership. Bravo, Ryan! As you can see, Troop 77 was very well represented! In fact, we had so many people from Troop 77 helping that I lost track of the number of days and hours each of you worked. SERVICE HOURS: So, if you have not done so already, both Scouts and Adults, please send me an email to sarasoccersweeper6@gmail.com with your name, days you worked, and hours you worked on each of those days. Also, remember to get them written down in the Service Log in the back of your Scout Handbook so I or Mr. Wade or another adult that saw you at camp can sign-off on those hours (I can do that Monday if there’s time and I’ve received the email from you in advance).

Reminder if you attended the drug program on May 10th after the Court of Honor and need to complete Second Class requirement 7c, discuss your participation in the program with your family and explain the dangers of substance addiction to them; bring in a 3x5 notecard with your name, the requirement, who attended, and signed by a parent or guardian indicating you completed this discussion; AND be prepared to discuss which parts of the Scout Oath and Scout Law relate to what you learned with an Adult Leader in order to get that requirement signed-off.

Now, turning our attention back to this week’s meeting. Who likes to get up on campouts and at Summer Camp at 5A or earlier ?  Who would much rather wake up at 6A?  If you want that extra hour of sleep, this week’s meeting is for you. Whether you are a younger Scout trying to figure out how to do it, or an older Scout that needs or has some tips, come to the meeting this week and learn how to make it happen.

Finally, if you got to the end of this novella, congrats! I am clearly turning into Mr. Cole with my lengthy SM blurbs.

Mrs. Sara Henderson

EAGLE COURTS OF HONOR HELP

For anyone (Scouts or Parents) who can volunteer some time to help organize a few things, get things setup, or help take things down at the end of Eagle Courts of Honor, I know Mrs. Cole could certainly use the help.  It’s not an overwhelming amount of stuff to get done by a team, but it starts to get overwhelming if you are having to do it all by yourself. If you’re interested in helping with the Eagle Courts of Honor please contact Holly Cole (hpcole77@gmail.com or (770) 401-4992) and let her know.  With a big backlog from COVID and being fortunate to have 1-2 Scouts earning Eagle a month, this is a great way to give some time to the Troop on a night other than Tuesdays and a great place to start volunteering.

Aquatics Merit Badge Days

Classes are held each Saturday through August 13, 2022. There will not be classes on Saturday, July 2nd or July 30th.  Click here for more info: https://www.atlantabsa.org/caabmb

new eagle required merit badge - citizenship in society

The first new merit badge for youth in the Scouts BSA program since 2017 will become Eagle required over the summer.  Called Citizenship in Society, it provides Scouts with opportunities to learn more about our world by encouraging them to explore information on diversity, equity, inclusion and ethical leadership — and to learn why these qualities are important in society and in Scouting.

Troop 77 needs qualified (adult) merit badge instructors to lead Citizenship in Society.  Registration is now open for the next two Citizenship in Society Facilitator training sessions. They will be held on March 12th and April 23rd at the Volunteer Service Center (across from the Braves stadium).  Follow the link to register: https://www.atlantabsa.org/cis-training

Please e-mail Wes Brewer (wesbrewer@hotmail.com) with any questions.
