from the scoutmaster
We have our first summer meeting of 2022 on Thursday 6/9 from 8P to 9:30P in Oak Grove Park. This will be a flag retirement meeting so scouts and adults should wear full Class A.
PLEASE NOTE THE DIFFERENT DAY AND TIME AND LOCATION FOR THIS MEETING.
Mrs. Keith will be available in OGUMC Park at the ASM Helpdesk from 7:30P to 8:00P (before the meeting) for advancement signoff.
Note that we will be varying the day and time of meetings throughout the summer, so please make sure you are reading the Newsletter and checking the Troop calendars on the website.
I hope everyone that signed-up is looking forward to having some fun this upcoming week volunteering at the Hightower Trail District Cub Scout Day Camp. We should have Scouts and Adult Leaders from Troop 77 there most days. The weather this week looks hot and dry but if volunteering at camp, be sure to pack your rain gear and essentials in your day pack and keep it with you. Do your best to set a good example for the Cub Scouts because they are ultimately the future of the Troop.
If you have not signed up to go to Summer Camp, especially First Year Scouts, then you can still do so the last time I checked. Please see or contact Ms. Crawford and she can help you with the sign-up process.
Finally, if you attended the drug program on May 10th after the Court of Honor and need to complete Second Class requirement 7c, please remember to discuss your participation in the program with your family and explain the dangers of substance addiction to them; bring in a 3x5 notecard with your name, the requirement, who attended, and signed by a parent or guardian indicating you completed this discussion; AND be prepared to discuss which parts of the Scout Oath and Scout Law relate to what you learned with an Adult Leader in order to get that requirement signed-off.

In the middle of the week, participants transition to Yonah Mountain and camp for two nights where skills are put into practice on a larger scale.

Mr. Henderson went to this camp as a youth for 5 years in a row and considers it his favorite camp. It is a lot of fun and very rewarding. It inspired him to spend weekends in college climbing, rappelling and camping on Mt. Yonah. He looks forward to going back to Ranger Camp this year and is happy to answer any questions you have.
new eagle required merit badge - citizenship in society
The first new merit badge for youth in the Scouts BSA program since 2017 will become Eagle required over the summer. Called Citizenship in Society, it provides Scouts with opportunities to learn more about our world by encouraging them to explore information on diversity, equity, inclusion and ethical leadership — and to learn why these qualities are important in society and in Scouting.
Troop 77 needs qualified (adult) merit badge instructors to lead Citizenship in Society. Registration is now open for the next two Citizenship in Society Facilitator training sessions. They will be held on March 12th and April 23rd at the Volunteer Service Center (across from the Braves stadium). Follow the link to register: https://www.atlantabsa.org/cis-training
Please e-mail Wes Brewer (wesbrewer@hotmail.com) with any questions.
