8.2.3. Exercises with facade drawings
A facade is a view you get if you look horizontally at the vertical side or front of a building or an object. When drawing an elevation, you must take the horizontal dimensions from the plans and the vertical dimensions from the sections. An example of a facade is shown in Fig. 8.3. The purpose of a facade is to (a) show the external faces of the building and (b) locate the door and window openings and other features of the building. Having a sketched building plan, we obtain the section, the length of the facade and the heights by deriving the corresponding vertical and horizontal connection lines.
At the intersection of the corresponding communication lines, we also draw other elements of the facade - doors, windows, and balconies. We draw the facade with narrow lines. On a facade should be shown altitudes of features, the lateral axes of the building, and the name of the facade is written.
