Geography

Curriculum Intent

‘The study of Geography is about more than just memorizing places on a map. It’s about understanding the complexity of our world’. –Barack Obama

‘Geography explains the past, illuminates the present and prepares us for the future. What could be more important than that?’ – Michael Palin

The study of geography will provide balanced and exciting curriculum, showing everything from the small connections of ecosystems to the diversity of human activities. We strive to create inspired learners who are passionate about the world that they live in and encourage them to have a life-long love of the subject.

In Geography at Havant Academy, we aim to build skills of investigation and understanding as students explore other cultures and landscapes, and their connections to our changing modern world. The students will develop core knowledge of places, environments and human activities throughout the world. They will travel across continents and oceans to discover their past, present and future. The students will develop facilitating knowledge that can be used in everyday life using both tried and tested techniques along with new technologies.

Geography encourages students to ask questions about the diverse world and think about the relevance to their future and the future of the planet. Investigate evidence to ensure they can help the world in every day decisions by making positive contributions. Also allowing students to apply knowledge and question what is the best way to achieve something which can be used across many other aspects of life.

In short, by studying Geography at Havant Academy, students will cultivate a breadth of core and facilitating knowledge about the human and physical world they live in and the relevant skills to interpret them.
