Sociology helps us to see a rapidly changing society from a range of different perspectives. This GCSE covers the study of a range of modern-day social processes, structures and issues in the family, education, crime and social stratification (inequality, poverty and power). From the study of how families have changed over time, marriage and divorce patterns and factors affecting educational achievement. Unit 1 investigates a lot of what you already may know, but from the perspective of different people in our society. Unit 2 challenges your own views of criminal activity as we debate over the causes of criminal and deviant behaviour and how we control people in society. Forms of power, social class and poverty are also investigated - topics which are regularly at the forefront of discussions in the media too.
