Throughout the apprenticeship program, you will regularly use the Manual Vertical Mill to complete machining projects. Skills and knowledge learned on the Manual Vertical Milling Machine translate directly to skills used on CNC Mill equipment. Utilizing the Manual Milling Machine provides heightened level of insight into how our cutting tools operate as we cut different types of features and surfaces.
This page will serve to provide safety related information and procedures to ensure that the Manual Vertical Mill is used correctly and safely. These procedures are put in place to keep apprentices and everyone else in the facility safe and free of harm. Failure to adhere to safety procedures will result in the loss of equipment use privileges until safety training can be recompleted.
Step 1: Read Chapter 2 of the Bridgeport Manual. If you would like to download a copy of the Bridgeport Manual, click the button below and download a copy to use offline or print.
Not every Manual Vertical Mill is a Bridgeport. Bridgeport is the Manufacturer of one of the most widely used Manual Vertical Mill in the United States. Machines by other manufacturers may look similar but not identical. Consult that machines manual for specific details about the machine.
Step 3: Hazards Associated with the Manual Vertical Mill
The instructors will tour the Manual Vertical Mill with the apprentices, explore functions of the machines, and discuss hazards associated with each function of the machine.
Step 4: Manual Vertical Mill Safety Assessment
Each student must pass the Safety Assessment Below prior to operating any of the Manual Vertical Mills during Semester 1.
