We have several types of wood available in the design hub

Plywood 

• 9mm plywood:

This product is 9mm thick and is problematic when laser cutting. You need to use very low speed settings and even with these low settings the laser will sometimes not cut through. You will often need to cut the last couple of millimeters using the fret saw. However this thickness of plywood will allow you to use a metal hinge on a box. This thickness of plywood is works well in the CNC routers.  Cost: 60cmx45cm sheet SAR5.5

Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)

• 3mm MDF:  

This product is 3mm thick and is good for laser cutting. Use the same settings for laser cutting 4mm plywood. You cannot use a metal hinge with this type of material as the screws will come through the other side.  Cost: 60cmx45cm sheet SAR10

• 5mm MDF:

This product is 5mm thick and is good for laser cutting. Use the same settings for laser cutting 6mm plywood. You cannot use a metal hinge with this type of material as the screws will come through the other side. 

Cost: 60cmx45cm sheet SAR12.5

• 17mm MDF:

This product is 17mm thick and cannot be laser cut. However it does work well in the CNC routers. Cost: 60cmx45cm sheet SAR35
