WHAT ARE FAMILY STUDIES & SOCIAL SCIENCES?
The science of studying people that draw from multiple other academic disciplines – most notably psychology, sociology, anthropology, economics, human development, law, politics, social justice, nutrition science, the health sciences, biology, chemistry, consumer studies, business, and media studies and, in the case of Family Studies, filters them through the lens of the family.
We combine theoretical, academic learning with practical, hands on, experiential learning. Our courses help students build strong academic skills but, because everyone has a family, students relate to the material and make meaningful connections to what they have learned.
Here is a radio interview about the value of Family Studies education. Northern is featured about 20 minutes into the "doc"
