NORTHERN BUDDIES

OUR MISSION

Our mission as Northern Buddies is to create a strong sense of community, and foster an environment where every student feels like they belong and are able to make Northern their home. As Buddies, we are here to act as a support system for every student. We strive to highlight all the best parts of Northern and everything our school community has to offer. Our goal is to make each and every student’s experience as positive as possible.

OVERVIEW

The Buddies Program was first established at Northern in September 1988. Students in senior grades are assigned to each grade 9 home form to help ease the transition to secondary school and support grade 9 students. Opportunities are provided throughout the school year for "Buddies" to meet with grade 9 students to encourage them to participate in Northern's many extracurricular and cocurricular activities. In addition to fostering a sense of community by encouraging communication between the junior and senior students, the Buddies Program provides an opportunity for senior students to develop leadership skills.
