Movement Competence: Skills, Concepts, Strategies
C1. Skills ~ perform movement skills, demonstrating an understanding of the basic requirements of the skills and applying movement concepts as appropriate, as they engage in a variety of physical activities;
Movement Skills:
• Stability (e.g., bending, stretching, twisting, turning, rolling, balancing, transferring weight, landing a jump)
• Locomotion/travelling (e.g., walking, wheeling, running, chasing, dodging, sliding, rolling, jumping, leaping)
• Manipulation (e.g., sending: throwing, kicking, striking, volleying; receiving: catching, trapping, dribbling)
Movement Concepts & Principles:
• Body awareness – What body parts move and in what way? (parts, shapes, actions)
• Spatial awareness – Where does the body move? (location, direction, level, pathway, plane, extensions
• Effort awareness – How does the body move? (time, force, flow)
• Relationship – With whom or with what does the body move?
C2. Strategies ~ apply movement strategies appropriately (based on the goal/objective of an activity/game), demonstrating an understanding of the components of a variety of physical activities, in order to enhance their ability to participate successfully in those activities.
