There are many ways to stay active and fit at school or with our families. It is recommended that "children and youth aged 5 to 17 should get at least 60 minutes of moderate-to-vigorous intensity physical activity per day." The Government of Canada Public Health
Physical Education classes and scheduled Daily Physical Activity help our students meet this goal with a variety of activities at school. Families are also encouraged to give opportunities to stay active and promote a positive attitude. The benefits to health and well-being are numerous.
DISTANCE RUNNING GOAL
An important part of improving our fitness levels is goal setting. One PE activity that we can easily set goals in is distance running.
Many of our classes at the beginning of the year include running 1 km (= 2 circuits around the back field) or more to work towards achieving an overall distance. Some classes have made it a goal to run the distance to the CN Tower from Bowmore which is approximately 10 km.
In working towards a goal, it brings a focus to our efforts and builds our physical and character strength. It can also bring fun and a sense of accomplishment to the work of getting/staying fit!
