ILP Defined

INDIVIDUAL EDUCATION PLAN

You are connected to this Centre because you have an Individual Education Plan (IEP). The IEP is an important document because it outlines how you learn best and what accommodations you are entitled to. Become familiar with your IEP, especially your exceptionality, learning strengths and accommodations.

IEPs ARE UPDATED within the FIRST 30 DAYS OF SCHOOL.

Students and parents will be given opportunities to contribute to the IEP writing process. It may have to be via virtual meeting. Please know we have a very large student population with IEPs so please rest assure that teachers have access to your child/ward's IEP and that accommodations will be honoured from day 1 even if IEPs are late coming home.

Please see FAQs regarding IEPs below.

ACCOMMODATIONS

An accommodation is the process of changing, for individual students, the way the curriculum is delivered to you in ways that are appropriate to your identified learning needs. These may be in the form of individualized teaching and assessment strategies, human supports, and/or individualized equipment.

Accommodations allow the student to participate in learning without any changes to the knowledge and skills the student is expected to demonstrate.

Accommodations listed on the IEP are categorized as follows:

INSTRUCTIONAL: adjustments in teaching strategies including styles of presentations, methods of organization, or use of technology.

ENVIRONMENTAL: changes or supports in the physical environment, such as preferential seating or special lighting.

ASSESSMENT: adjustments in the methods required for the student to demonstrate learning such as allowing additional time to complete tests or assignments or permitting oral responses to tests.

How do my teachers access my IEP?

All IEPs are electronic and on a secure website. Teachers are provided with class lists that have students with IEPs identified. It is expected that teachers then access their students IEPs online and ensure they are providing the appropriate accommodations.

What types of accommodations are available?

It is required that all accommodations on your IEP be provided to you

What if I'm not receiving the appropriate accommodations?

This will require you to advocate for yourself and your needs. Teachers are required to provide you with IEP accommodations. I would recommend that you first talk to the teacher, outlining your concerns. You can also speak to your GLE or GLS teacher for guidance. Your GLE or GLS teacher is there to support you and ensure your success. You can also come by the ARC to discuss your needs or speak to your Vice Principal.

What if there is an accommodation on my IEP that I don't want?

Please contact the CL of the department: Amanda Kearney by email: amanda.kearney@tdsb.on.ca

Can I change what's on my IEP?

Yes, you can change strengths and needs, accommodations and request to have assessment data removed. This is done during student and parent IEP consultations. If you want one added you may have to bring in a psychoeducational assessment or a doctor's diagnosis. Teachers connect with students whose IEP they are writing as part of the IEP writing process. If you have not been contacted by mid October for an IEP consult, please contact Amanda Kearney at amanda.kearney@tdsb.on.ca or your Vice Principal.

I no longer want to have an IEP, what do I do?

This is a big decision, but it is yours to make. Please contact Amanda Kearney to start this process at amanda.kearney@tdsb.on.ca

I have a new assessment, what's next?

That is great new! The more information about your learning profile, the better. Please contact Amanda Kearney by email. You will be asked to send the new assessment to the school. IEPs will be updated with new assessments.
