Keep Remote Learning Simple

What tools do you need to get started? It depends on your grade level. Keep video conferencing easy, setup your virtual classroom and select your assessment tool. Let's explore a few solutions.

Step 1 - Decide on Communications

How are you going to communicate with the various stakeholder groups? Those include:

  • School administration

  • Your Grade Level or Department Team

  • Parents

  • Students

Managing Phone/Text Messages for Work

A problem is managing all the work-related phone calls and text messages. Many of us handle work-related content via text messages. This can become overwhelming at a time like this. One way to manage it all is to use Google Voice for your personal Gmail account.

Step 2 - Decide on A Learning Management System (LMS)

It's very easy to end up with a million and one different tools to use. Again, keep it simple. Many of these solutions will be decided by your campus or district, but a reminder is to keep it simple.

Don't be afraid to come up with alternative assessments that don't involve technology at all:

  • Ask students to write a poem, story, journal entry and spiff it up with Magic Rainbow Unicorns

  • How about creating a table in Google Docs to keep data?

    • For littles, how many birds did you see on your walk or for older kids how many calories did you consume today?
