Welcome to my abbreviated intro to Zoom. You'll find several videos below that provide an overview. You decide what you need to watch. These are my takes (possibly, sleep-inducing) on Zoom.
What Do You Recommend?
Zoom offers great features for educators during COVID-19. I like Zoom because it's easy to use, powerful, and makes screencasting easy. That said, several concerns have been raised about privacy with Zoom. For that reason, I make these recommendations if you decide to use Zoom in K-16 schools:
Use Zoom with adults. That is, staff and parents.
Avoid Zoom use with students.
Avoid synchronous lessons with students. Instead, rely on asynchronous videos delivered via learning management system of choice (e.g. Seesaw for K-2, Google Classroom for 3-12, or whatever you've already adopted for use with students). See chart below for some recommendations.
Want to see your students? Use Flipgrid video (which now supports screencasting)
Use screen recording tools that I recommend in this blog entry, Video Sharing in Google Classroom and Seesaw
