During Grades 9-11 you will have utilized various tools to begin the self-reflection process; such as the Morrisby test and the character assessment section of MaiaLearning. Using these tools to begin a thoughtful and thorough self-evaluation can help you to determine the institutions where you will be most satisfied. Additionally, look at your most recent TASIS Transcript, transfer transcripts, standardized testing results (including PSAT), and your resume/CV. This information will help you to focus on your abilities, skills, interests, values and goals. To begin, ask yourself some key questions:
What are my educational goals?
What are my personal goals?
What are my professional goals?
Where am I strongest academically?
Which subject areas do I most enjoy?
Is my transcript an accurate reflection of my abilities?
How has studying at an international school influenced me?
What activities or interests do I wish to pursue or develop?
Where do I eventually want to live and work?
All TASIS students and their families have access to MaiaLearning, a college information website used to research and guide your application process. MaiaLearning is a valuable research tool; it has some sophisticated ways to sort potential universities by major, location and selectivity. One other feature of MaiaLearning is its ability to help predict chances of admission through a tool called "scattergrams." Scattergrams graphically depict the GPAs, SAT/ACT scores, and admission experience of TASIS students at hundreds of different universities over the past several years. While scattergrams are a limited tool—they only plot two pieces of a student’s application—they can be used as one data point to understand the likelihood of gaining admission to a particular university.
While MaiaLearning is a robust site, you may find that you want to explore other search tools. We would suggest that you take a look at:
Morrisby - Each Grade 10 student takes the Morrisby career assessment, they have a search tool specifically for UK universities based on your profile.
