Fall of 10th and 11th grade
PSAT measures critical reading, math, and writing abilities, as well as providing SAT preparation. All TASIS England Grade 10-11 students take the PSAT during the school day and are automatically registered.
Summer after 10th grade or fall of 11th grade
For students looking at university applications requiring the SAT or ACT:
Take a practice ACT and SAT from each provider’s website. Consider which test format the student prefers, keeping in mind that the ACT is a computer-based test for international test centers. The ACT-SAT concordance tables can help to determine the best test for each student.
Compare the practice tests, including the PSAT results, to determine where improvement has occurred.
Review independently for the SAT or ACT using the links mentioned below. Students can also consider a test preparation class. Some students take summer courses to prepare (www.summerdiscovery.com has several) and/or the TASIS England course that runs January-late spring.
Throughout 11th grade
Students needing the SAT or ACT should take one practice test each month to stay in practice.
Take the SAT or ACT one to three times, using the registration details above. Students should select testing month(s) where they will be the most prepared.
Summer before 12th grade
Take an English Proficiency Test (if needed).
Fall of 12th grade
We recommend a student completes testing by the beginning of the 12th grade school year.
Considering the prevalence of test-optional universities, the need for a schedule varies.
