General Settings

Taft Gmail Settings Recommendations- General

From your Gmail, click on the Gear icon and select Settings. The 1st tab you will see along the top is General. 

Make sure you click Save Changes at the bottom of the page when finished.

• Language (default): English (US)

• Phone Numbers (default): United States

• Maximum page size: 50

  • The number of emails/conversations that are listed per “page” of email. Can be set from 10 -> 100

• Undo Send: 30 seconds

  • Allows you to quickly recall an email before it is sent in case the send button was clicked in error. Can be set from 5->30 seconds

• Default reply behavior: Reply

• Images: Always display external images

  • Google automatically scans images in email and should remove dangerous or offensive images. For extra security, choose Ask before displaying external images

• Smart Compose: Writing suggestions off (recommended)

• Smart Compose personalization: Personalization off (recommended)

• Default text style: See Style Guide Document

• Conversation View: Personal preference - Recommended off to start

• Nudges: Leave both boxes unchecked

• Hover actions: Enable hover actions

• Send and Archive: Hide "Send & Archive" button in reply

• Smart Reply: Smart Reply on

• Preview Pane: Mark a conversation as read: After 20 seconds

  • Can be set from Immediately -> Never

• Desktop notifications: Mail notifications off

• Stars: Leave as default for start

• Keyboard shortcuts: On or Off depending on personal preference.

• Button labels: Icons (default) or Text depending on personal preference.

• My picture: Change default Google Account Picture. 

  • Note: Taft Policies apply to any image displayed

• Create contacts for auto-complete: When I send a message to a new person, add them to Other Contacts so that I can auto-complete to them next time

• Signature: See Style Guide Document

• Personal level indicators: No indicators

• Snippets: Show snippets

Make sure you click Save Changes at the bottom of the page when finished.
