Study

Basic Study Habits

  • Be prepared for your classes and make sure you attend. Be on time!

  • Make sure you do all assignments and turn them in on time

  • Avoid cramming for tests, but review on a regular basis.

  • Study each day, even if there are no tests.

Taking Good Notes

  • Make sure you are well prepared with plenty of paper and great pencils or pens so you can take notes. Although it is difficult to write down every single thing your teacher says, you do need to learn to write down the most important things.

  • Review your notes on a regular basis. It’s a good idea for you to take a look at your class notes each day.

  • Have a place for all your study materials, such as notebooks, planners, pens, books and other materials so you don’t lose them.

Discover Your Learning Style

Most of us have a preferred way of learning. Getting to know your learning style and study in the ways you learn best.

  • Auditory learners learn by listening. If you’re an auditory learner you could try reading your notes aloud and discussing them with other people. You might like to record key points and play them back.

  • Visual learners learn by seeing. If you’re a visual learner you could use colours in your notes and draw diagrams to help represent key points. You could try to remember some ideas as images.

  • Tactile/Kinesthetic learners learn by doing. If you’re a tactile/kinesthetic learner you could use methods like role-playing or building models to revise key points.
