Dear South-Western Families,

Thank you for your efforts to help provide our students with a safe and healthy school year of remote, blended, and in-person educational opportunities. This year has truly been ‘one for the books’ when it comes to learning new ways to teach and learn. Adaptability, patience, and persistence are virtues that have been tested, retested, and required to make this year successful. We appreciate the many challenges this year has created for all involved and your willingness to be active partners.

Our students were forced to learn differently this school year. Enhanced technology skills became essential to show their understanding of subject matter. This will prove to be a benefit throughout their school years. They have watched their teachers learn to navigate their way through technology and remote learning, which has taught them how to handle mistakes and be resilient. At different points throughout the year, teachers have been able to work more closely with their students, learning strengths and areas for improvement better than before.

It has been refreshing to be able to see each other in relatively normal gatherings at the end of this unique school year. We’ve been able to witness the growth in both our students and our staff members as they have navigated moving from classroom settings to computer screens, learning to remotely connect with each other while continuing to progress through lessons and educational experiences. We have been given the opportunity to reimagine what our schools can look like and are evolving to provide our students with a strong foundation for their futures. Our experiences have the potential to change education forever.

We’ve learned so many things this year:

• Technology is a wonderful learning tool...until it stops working.

• Our students and families are resilient and can rise to any challenge.

• Our staff members are extremely creative and can make the best of any situation.

• It does take a village to raise a child and also support and lift up one another.

• We survived and thrived this school year because of you.

We hope you enjoy the summer break and take advantage of the extended learning opportunities available to students in both June and August.

Estimadas familias de South-Western:

Gracias por el esfuerzo en ayudar a brindar a nuestros estudiantes, un año escolar seguro y saludable de oportunidades, tanto educativas remotas, combinadas y en persona. Este año ha sido verdaderamente “uno para escribir en los libros” cuando se trata de aprender nuevas formas de enseñar y aprender. La adaptabilidad, la paciencia y la perseverancia son virtudes que han sido probadas, vueltas a examinar y requeridas para que este año estuviera exitoso. Apreciamos los muchos desafíos que este año ha creado para todos los que participaron y la voluntad de ustedes de ser socios activos.

Nuestros estudiantes fueron obligados a aprender de manera diferente este año escolar. Las habilidades tecnológicas fueron mejorando, se volvieron esenciales para mostrar la comprensión del tema. Esto resultará beneficioso a lo largo de sus años escolares. Han visto a sus maestros aprender a navegar a través de la tecnología y el aprendizaje remoto, lo que les ha enseñado cómo manejar los errores y ser elásticos. En diferentes momentos a lo largo del año, los maestros han podido trabajar más de cerca con sus estudiantes, en las fortalezas de aprendizaje y las áreas para implementar, mejor que antes.

Ha sido reconfortante poder vernos en reuniones relativamente normales al final de este único año escolar. Hemos podido presenciar el crecimiento tanto de nuestros estudiantes, como de los miembros de nuestro personal, a medida que han pasado de la configuración del salón a las pantallas de las computadoras, aprendiendo a conectarse de forma remota entre sí, mientras continúan progresando a través de lecciones y experiencias educativas. Se nos ha dado la oportunidad de volver a imaginar cómo pueden ser nuestras escuelas y cómo están evolucionando para proporcionar a nuestros estudiantes una base sólida para su futuro. Nuestras experiencias tienen el potencial de cambiar la educación para siempre.

Hemos aprendido muchas cosas este año:
