Required Question
I have grown as an artist by my techniques. This year, I have learned about contrast, highlights, shadows, perspective, and more in different types of art styles. This includes charcoal, pencil, pen, water color, acrylic painting, printmaking, and clay. For example, my drawing skills have improved greatly by perspective and tone. One of the first projects we had was the charcoal item project, I wasn't able to get the shape right and the shadows didn't hit precisely. I then learned how to blend shadows and highlight the image to make the drawing look realistic. This was presented in one of my most recent projects, which is my portrait. There is a lot of depth in it and it's blended well with shadows and highlights to make the facial features stand out.
Question #5
My favorite medium to work with was either charcoal or acrylic painting. I was able to blend the charcoal to make it look realistic by creating shadows and highlights. I was successful in blending, I think that my piece really came together and was realistic because I was able to blend shadows and create highlights. For my acrylic painting, I was successful with the details in the smoothie and the fruit. They look real and defined because of the shading and highlights. I used what I learned from the color theory to make my painting look bright and realistic. I like how I'm able to be precise and authentic with these two mediums, while being creative.
Question #7
I learned the most from the portrait project. Drawing the human face is hard because it involves observing the complex shapes, anatomy, angles, tones, and textures of the face. I learned how to draw each facial feature using shadows, highlights, contrast, value, and blending. I then learned about the proportions of the head and face, all while capturing expression and mood. I began with a simple, faintly drawn sketch of an oval. Remembering that the head and face are symmetrical, I drew a faint center line down the center of the oval. I subdivided the centerline at its central position and drew a horizontal line across the page, which established the eye level in my drawing. Next, I subdivided the bottom half of the face in half to locate the point where the nose can be drawn. Then I subdivided the area between the nose and the bottom of the oval. This is where I created a line where I drew lips and mouth.
Question #10
My most successful project was the acai bowl because it's very detailed and I put a lot of work into it. I used different colors and tones to give the fruit and smoothie contrast. The acai bowl is textured to make it look more realistic and I used perspective to get the shadows and light right. Using bright colors and interesting textures makes my painting stand out. Something that helped me achieve this was understanding the values in art. This includes becoming a better judge of values and color, color matching, and seeing the big shapes among the detail.
