This piece is called "Relapse". It was oil painted last year for Art 3 and it is really important to me because it is something that I have witnessed throughout my life; through my family, my best friend, and even myself. I think a lot of people don't understand that the hardest part of recovery is not the recovery itself, it is the emotional toll after you have recovered to stay recovered. Most people relapse after recovering because they are just left to the wolves because they are supposed to be in a "clean slate." I also want people realize that relapse is not failure, it is part of the fight and is as important as recovering.
I created a collage as the bottom because recovery can come from a lot of things including alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, ED's, self harm, and more.
Some feedback that I received was adding more detail to the water and the girl. I agree with this because I had less time to complete this painting because I changed my project plan part way through my original painting. I ended up rushing at the end, but in the future I will plan out my project better so that I can present my piece at its best.
