the main idea/inspiration I had for this piece was to make something that can look like multiple different things depending on the angle that you are looking at. all of the space around my leaves was meant to be a somewhat 3-D looking sequence of black boxes. I made this with a sharpie pen for the outline of the leaves, fine-point charlie for the boxes, and graphite for the starting drawing, and the lines separating the boxes. I thought that making the boxes not really square or any particular shape has a good touch because it lets you take a different perspective on this work.
