Wire Sculpture

Artist statement:

I created a wire sculpture of a dress shoe using the 18 gage wire. I used needle-nosed pliers to bend the ends of two wire segments into “fish hooks”, connected the segments, then squeezed the fish hook until the wire wasn’t moving. I chose to make a replica of a shoe because it seemed simple and easy to do.

At first I was going to add more detail with 28 gage wire, I was going to try and make seams, but I didn’t have enough time in class to do that and was too busy during advisory.

My artwork would be stronger if I had added more detail. I didn’t add any additional detail with the 28 gage wire because I didn’t think it was a requirement, I thought it was just something extra to do. My artwork would also be stronger if I had made the two big pieces of wire the same length, one is longer than the other so it looks weird.
