Artist Statement

I painted a woman sitting at a desk on a balcony looking at skyscrapers in the night. I sketched the drawing out using a ruler and a light pencil. I then painted it with water colors.

I was going to draw the woman bigger, but I didn’t have enough room so I decided to draw her small.

I drew this because the two artists I chose, Manet and Hopper, are represented in the picture. Manet is represented because he painted mostly women, and Hopper painted themes of Isolation in America, the woman is alone and the city was supposed to make the drawing American themed. I think my artwork would be better if I had taken more time on it, and if I had added more detail to make the picture more American themed.
