Artist Statement:

Blind Contour Drawing: The assignment was to draw my hand, a person's face, and something around you. So I did a blind contour of my hand doing a thumbs up, Emma's face, and a sculpture that I spotted in the classroom of Vincent Van-Gogh.

Extended Drawing: I thought to create my artwork because my drawing of Vincent Van-Gogh reminded me of a wizard. And the thumbs-up drawing, which happened to be right next to the drawing of Emma's face. For some reason,  Emma's eyes lined up perfectly in the center of the shape. I then realized that the whole shape was shaped like a squid, and it already had two eyes.  That's when I knew what I was going to draw, a wizard fighting a squid. I also decided to draw an ocean background.

I used red paint and black oil pastel for the squid. Oil pastel, and colored pencil for the wizard. And I finished it off with graphite pencil colored in with assorted colored pencils for the sea creatures to add to my background setting of the ocean. And then a bright blue highlighter and marker to make the water a nice color, and to have the images really pop out at you.

I took A black oil pastel, and while looking in a different direction I drew three drawings separate drawings. My hand doing a thumbs up, my friend Emma, and a small sculpture of Vincent Van-Gogh. I tried creating a totally new image with these three messy drawings. I tried to make the blind Vincent Van-Ghoh drawing actually look like him, and then when I realized it wasn't going well, I decided to turn it into a wizard. And I turned the drawing of a thumbs up, and the drawing of Emma into a squid. I used red paint and created the shape of the octopus body and some tentacles.
