Artist Statement:

I knew from the start that I either wanted to make a lobster and a fish, on a black background, although part way through I decided to change that. I went with the Lobster idea because I thought it would be able to fit the twelve main colors better. I then had to come up with an idea of how to fit all 84 colors into a medium-sized canvas. As I was thinking, I remembered my value strips, and I thought, why couldn't I just do that for every section? So that's what I decided to do, and also ended up switching to a blended value strip-like background like the rest of the drawing, to make it look more like water.

I used acrylic paint on a canvas, along with a black sharpie for the outline

I first drew the sketch of the lobster and then outlined this sketch in black sharpie because I thought it would make the lines a lot cleaner.  I then worked for hours and hourse attempting to mix colors to almoast perfection, and then sometimes needing to apply them multiple times to get no brush strokes. I executed the whole drawing this way, including all 84 of the colors. Then at the end I decided to sure up my lines with sharpie one more time, make new colors for the legs, and paint the outer edges of the canvas black. In the end it was by far the most proud i've ever been on an art project, and I really like it a lot!
