Spray Paint and Blick Marker on Canvas

Artist Statement:

Hydro dipping = Spray paint in a bucket of water creating cool patterns which you can then dip an item into to come out with that same cool pattern that was on the top of the water

The second that I heard that we could use any style on this project, my brain immediately went to hydro dipping. It has been one of my hobbies for the past year, and I've been wanting to incorporate it into one of my foundations of art project. I thought it would be a really good and vibrant background. For the foreground, I knew that I wanted it to be circular, in the middle, and have something to do with the wilderness. And that's when I came up with my river quote, which I thought was clever, and a river would fit well with the theme.

For the materials, I just used the spray paint in a bucket of water for the hydro dipping, and then blick markers for the wilderness foreground.

For the hydro dipping portion of it, I taped the back of the canvas and made a circle in the center with black tape. I used an exacto knife to make the tape circle in the center. The reason for this is that everything else but that part would have a design on it. I then took the Magenta and Glacier Blue color spray paint from my room for the hydro dipping. I used really high-quality spray paint and a gas mask that I have so I don't inhale any paint fumes and I got to it. It took me three tries to get a good one, but I think it turned out well. I then let it dry overnight and made a circle in the center out of Blick marker. I still had a little bit of white space left so I spray-painted a paintbrush with the same colors to add the finishing touches to the background. For the center, I wanted to make it simple and a clear design, but also calm and peaceful. I thought about adding grass once I finished the wilderness scene but then decided that it would overpower it, so I left it how it was. I think both designs are really cool and worked well to complement each other.  I decided to add the quotes online because I didn't really have much space left, and I thought it wouldn't help the look.
