Maine Junior Duckstamp

The Main Idea for this artwork was to create a pretty background that is very colorful so the duck pops up out of the image. That is why I went with a colorful sunrise with blue/green water, and long grass. Representing a beautiful sunrise morning in the marsh.

This work was made with colored pencils mainly, and a yellow paint marker to brighten the rising sun. I think that colored pencils were the right choice because they blend well and create a cool color.

My process was deciding which duck I thought was cool out of the list that we were given, I almost went with the harlequin duck, but I decided on the bufflehead due to its unique head color, which kind of resembled an oil spill which I thought looked cool and would be fun to draw.
