Sgraffito

The main idea that guided my artwork was trying to replicate the American flag and its design to the best ability on my sgraffito tile.

This work was made by me first making a design on paper, then drawing the design on the tile, the scratching out stripes, then the stars, then glazing the tile

The process I went through here was definitely a "beautiful oops" type of deal. This is because it is hard to change your mistakes with this material. I mentally got to my decision to make the flag when my tablemate Lincoln told me it would be a good idea, I agreed, and we went on with the design.
