Foundations of Art

My work in art this year portrays my strengths and weaknesses as a learner by showing my learning curve. Throughout my life, I haven't been exactly a great artist. I have always struggled in art class. Going into this year I thought that I had to take art this year and never again. While I am not taking an art class next year, I did enjoy some aspects of art this year. I wanted the part of the year where we made art history. I enjoyed this because there are lots of exciting artists in history, and I like studying them. The problem with art is, i'm not good at it.

My work shows how I have artistically improved by showing my skills of using space and color as well as my new knowledge of the art's importance. I think my art aesthetically looks better around this time of year than back in September. My art has also not shown as much improvement as it could've if we focused on more similar things all year rather than sampling different things throughout the school year. It looks better also when I draw stuff because I feel like I can shade and fill out the paper better with different colors that work well together.

The most challenging assignment of this school year was probably the wire sculpture. I would say the wire sculpture was extra difficult because it featured not only the artistry aspect of making art but also the physical activity of squeezing the pliers until they make the wire stand still and straight. Even after you tirelessly bend the wires with the hooks they still commonly fail to comply and end up bending all over the place. The last thing that was blisteringly difficult about this project was when we would leave them and then come back to them the next class Id feel like id lost my ability to build the structure.

The project I am most proud of is my assemblage or sculpture project. I had fun with this project and thoroughly enjoyed making my funny head thingy. I liked this project because it let me work freely while also making sure that I was making a solid project. This is probably the only project that I think I can say I made one of the best pieces of art in the class for the project. In terms of looks, my head may not be stellar but it is funny, wearable, and has hair and a hat. What else could one ask for?

To be completely honest, I don't have any artistic goals for the short term or the long term. I feel like I have already done all I’ll ever do in a class setting. I don't see any more art classes in my future and don't think I will be making any sort of elaborate art projects on my own.
