During this AP Statistics APSI for new and experienced teachers, you’ll explore the course framework, the exam, and the new AP resources that will help you plan and focus instruction—and give you feedback throughout the year on the areas where individual students need additional focus. You’ll also learn about completing the digital activation process at the start of the school year that will give you immediate access to the new resources and will help ensure that your students can register for AP Exams by the new fall deadlines. By attending this APSI, you’ll gain deeper insight into the following key takeaways, among several others: Understand the Course; Plan the Course; Teach the Course; Assess Student Progress; and Engage as a Member of the AP Community. In addition, specific attention will be paid to the following AP Classroom resources: unit guides, personal progress checks, AP teacher community, and the AP question bank.
Daren Starnes has been involved with AP Statistics since the course launched in 1996-97. He taught AP Statistics for 25 years and has been an AP Exam reader and leadership team member for over 20 years. Since becoming a College Board consultant in 1998, Daren has led more than 100 summer institutes and numerous one- and two-day workshops for statistics teachers. He gives frequent presentations about teaching statistics at conferences throughout the United States and online. Daren served as lead instructor for the AP Daily video series for AP Statistics and helped develop on-demand AP exam review videos in AP Classroom for several years. He is co-author of two popular high school statistics textbooks—The Practice of Statistics (TPS, the best-selling textbook for AP Statistics, now in an 8th edition that is fully aligned to the revised AP Statistics course framework and exam) and Statistics and Probability with Applications (SPA, now in its 5th edition)—and a recently published college text, Introductory Statistics: A Student-Centered Approach. Daren and his wife Judy enjoy traveling and spending time with their three sons’ families (especially their eight grandkids)
ALL educators are eligible to apply for an AP Participant Grant to cover tuition for AP Statistics.
Because of the revised curriculum, College Board is extending this opportunity to new and experienced teachers, even if you have previously attended an APSI for Statistics.
