AP Biology is a challenging course for both teachers and students. The week will focus on understanding and using the Course and Exam Document, scope and sequence, as well as building a pacing calendar. We will also emphasize the development of skills necessary for student success on the AP Biology exam as well as a detailed breakdown of the exam experience and scoring process. Participants will engage in lab activities that develop course specific science skills and reinforce Biological content.
David Howard has dedicated his career to advancing science education in Tyler, Texas. An experienced biology educator, he has taught every level of the subject along with AP Environmental Science and currently serves as an AP Biology teacher at Legacy High School while also teaching Biology 1408 and 1409 for Tyler Junior College.
David earned his B.S. from Texas A&M University and his M.Ed. from The University of Texas at Tyler. He is passionate about creating engaging, skills-centered science experiences that foster students' understanding of the biological world.
A frequent presenter, David has shared his expertise on formative assessment, scientific skill development, instructional technology, standards-based grading, and blended learning. He also serves as the Science Department Chair and a new teacher mentor at Legacy High School, in addition to his work as an AP Biology consultant and AP Biology Exam Reader.
David was recently recognized as a Texas State Finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathmatics and Science Teachign, reflecting his commitment to high-quality science education and professional leadership.
