By taking this AP Human Geography APSI, educators will explore the course framework and acquire a variety of new resources and strategies that will help their students prepare for the AP Exam, as well as become more geographically aware. Teachers will complete the course audit process as well as dive into the AP Human Geography Course and Exam Description (CED). Once acclimated, we will examine the major components of each unit of study and some of the more challenging topics from each unit. Teachers will get hands-on experience with a wide variety of activities that are ready to be implemented immediately in their own classrooms. This APSI will also examine the intricacies of free response writing and the nuances of the AP Classroom system, including its newest updates.

Understand the skills and content necessary to teach AP Human Geography
Implement a wide variety of assignments & activities that will engage students
Accurately design and score AP-style Free Response Questions (FRQs)
Strengthen their course utilizing all aspects of AP Classroom
Matt Poleski has been teaching for 16 years at his alma mater, including 14 years teaching AP Human Geography and serves as the department chair for the AP Academy. He graduated with his teaching degree from the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV) and earned his master’s degree in GIS from Elmhurst College in Illinois. He attends the AP Reading annually and also taught as an adjunct professor at Elmhurst College for five years. He is passionate about incorporating technology into the classroom and creating opportunities for his students to “do” geography. He belongs to the Geographic Alliance in Nevada (GAIN), National Council for Geographic Education (NCGE) and American Geographic Society (AGS) and served as one of the AGS Teacher Fellows in 2019 and 2024.
