**This workshop is designed specifically for teachers who have been teaching the AP® English Language and Composition curriculum for at least three years.**
This course will explore the AP Language and Composition CED, framework, exam structure, and AP resources, empowering teachers to build a curriculum focused on developing rhetorical analysis, synthesis, and argument skills with best practices forclassroom instruction and assessment. We will discuss strategies to motivate students and build confidence in their ability to analyze and communicate effectively, including Project-Based Learning through the optional We Serve Endorsement and exploration of College Board’s Acceptable AI Policy. By the end of the week, you will have a deeper understanding of the course, an understanding of the audit process, and a collection of resources ready to implement in your classroom.
Stephanie Kirk has more than 20 years in education, most of that teaching AP Language and Composition in inner city, rural,and virtual schools. She has a BA in English Licensure from Maryville College (2005) and a ME in Learning and Technology from Western Governors University (2015).
Kirk’s educational philosophy stems from experiences teaching at Martin Luther King, Jr Middle School in Charlotte,North Carolina, at Austin East Magnet High School in Knoxville, Tennessee, where she worked as a TAP Master Teachertrained in Kagan Cooperative Learning and Cognitive Coaching, and her current position teaching English II, APSeminar, English III, and AP Language and Composition at Heritage High School in Maryville, Tennessee. She was the 2020 Blount County Schools Reading Teacher of the Year and the 2021 Blount County Schools English Teacher of the Year. She also serves as the Lead AP Language and CompositionTeacher for Niswonger Foundation Online Academy based in Greeneville, Tennessee.
Kirk is College Board’s Co-Lead AP Language and Composition Consultant, is an Early Table Leader for the AP Language Reading, has participated in Sample Selection at the Reading, and is a current member of AP Advocates.
