Our task was to create a vehicle/transportation method the uses a source of energy other than chemical (gas) that can travel and stop at exactly 5 meters while carrying two passengers (rolls of pennies). Our final design uses gravitational energy from a ramp to propel it forward 5 meters. Our design uses a tape roll making it a cheap and easy to build vehicle that can be easily replicated. We took a video of it to find the velocity and calculate acceleration, PE, KE, and energy lost.
For this project, I did a good a job using my critical thinking skills to create and improve my own design. When our car didn't work or didn't go far enough, I used the concepts that I learned from class to find out what went wrong and fix them. I also did well with self-management when setting clear goals in a reasonable amount of time. We didn't get distracted as much compared to the Fire Away project and made a good use of our time to make tweaks and changes as needed.
We need to work on our collaboration on our project. When our first design failed, we ended up creating our own prototypes and split up into two groups with different designs/sources of energy. We ended up with a final design, however we spent a lot of effort on prototypes that didn't use. I didn't do very well in communication because while I was working on my design, I spent a lot of my time working on it and not coming up with ideas with the rest of my group. I try to work on these skills later on and continue to improve the other skills that I'm better at so I can contribute to the project in the best way possible.
