Our project began with an ambitious goal: to create an eco-friendly air conditioning system for cars that could run independently of the vehicle’s engine. However, through early feedback, research, and prototype testing, we realized that the car-based system presented several challenges—including compatibility across vehicle models and difficulty with installation.
To address these concerns and make our design more versatile and user-friendly, we pivoted. We evolved our idea into something more practical, more portable, and more universally useful: a solar-powered portable cooler. This new direction allowed us to maintain our original mission of clean, efficient cooling—while making it far more accessible to people in a variety of environments, not just inside a car.
Our updated prototype is built into a repurposed Coleman cooler and features two Peltier thermoelectric coolers for active cooling. After analyzing early testing data, we made a number of crucial improvements:
Increased cooling power by optimizing thermal contact and heat dissipation
Compact and lightweight redesign for easier portability
Improved battery efficiency using a more sustainable solar-based power system
This version of the cooler is now perfectly suited for use in outdoor settings like camping, tailgating, or road trips—anywhere traditional power isn’t easily available.
One of the biggest pieces of feedback we received was concern about energy consumption. In response, we reworked the power system to be more sustainable. By integrating solar charging capabilities, the unit can operate in remote locations without constant access to external power.
The result? Longer runtime, fewer recharges, and a reliable cooling solution that stays green and efficient. This improvement was a game-changer for users who spend long hours outdoors or travel frequently.
With the updated version built and tested, we set out to gather support and spread the word. We launched a crowdfunding campaign, and the response was incredible—backers from around the world were excited by the idea of a portable, solar-powered cooler that doesn’t rely on ice or fuel.
This campaign helped us raise not only funds, but a community. Early users and supporters have been instrumental in refining the cooler’s features and providing real-world insights. Their input continues to shape our design roadmap.
To reach a wider audience, we turned to digital marketing and social media promotion. By partnering with outdoor lifestyle influencers and creators, we were able to showcase the product in real-world settings. This helped us build credibility and reach potential backers who value portability, sustainability, and innovation.
Our online presence also gave us the ability to engage directly with our audience, answering questions, sharing progress updates, and generating momentum around our campaign.
While our current design works well for general outdoor use, we know every user has unique needs. That’s why we’re developing modular storage compartments, swappable battery packs, and mounting options for different environments—from RVs to boats and off-grid cabins.
We're also exploring potential partnerships with outdoor gear brands to offer bundles or even co-branded versions of our cooler. Eventually, we hope to see our product stocked at outdoor retailers and integrated into overlanding, camping, and travel packages.
Our ultimate goal is to make cooling accessible, eco-friendly, and adaptable. Whether you're a weekend camper, a festival-goer, a tradesperson in a hot environment, or someone living in a van or tiny home, our solar-powered portable cooler is built with you in mind.
We're committed to continuous innovation, listening to our users, and building a product that truly makes life cooler—without harming the planet.
